Joy of Giving
Whether you are an individual or a corporate, the average person-on-the-street or a big
celebrity, young or old, you have likely faced this situation before: a desire to give, share, or
help, which remained a desire and did not convert into action because of a number of
seemingly painstaking obstacles. There are questions like time or money, how much, when
and where, to whom, the impact of your contribution, and so on and so forth. But giving
should not be so difficult, should it?
The ‘Joy of Giving’ recognizes these challenges as real ones, and aims to help you – whoever
you are – overcome these concerns and contribute - whatever you want, and however you
want.
This movement, to be celebrated for a week from the 27th of September to the 3rd of October
2009, is a pan-India celebration of humanity that aims to mobilize people across our country
to come together, to give, and to make a difference.
Fundamental to this movement is the idea that everyone should have the opportunity to
spread the joy in their own capacities. To this end, NGOs and varied institutions from
corporate to educational institutions across the country are creating simple events and
mechanisms that will allow everybody to step past their concerns and limitations and
contribute comfortably.
Khushii, a renowned Delhi-based NGO, is taking on a big role for this week and organizing a
series of programmes that will allow you to participate and give easily, transparently, to a
cause of your choice, and above all, with the assurance that your contribution will be used
well to impact lives positively. This is a chance for Delhi to give generously to all
underprivileged sections of society.
Khushii’s Joy of Giving
Khushii has decided to be a part of the Joy of giving week to fulfil the following objectives:
· The joy of giving initiative is in alignment with Khushii’s endeavour to launch itself as an
umbrella charitable body (The India Action Forum) which will support and aid competent
NGO’s under controlled quality management and complete transparency.
· Spread awareness about various causes such as children, women, healthcare, education,
animals, and environment in addition to raising funds for each of the identified causes to
further their outreach programmes.
· Create positive thinking and heighten the sense of social responsibility and solidarity
amongst the citizens of Delhi
· Conduct a Delhi ‘pride’ event - by and for the masses, that captures the global
imagination and creates an upbeat social image for Delhi.
Khushii’s objectives for the Joy of Giving
Khushii’s aim is to mobilize a very large cross-section of Delhi’s populace and raise a
significant sum of money during the Joy of Giving week.
The contributions will be used to support the causes of the NGOs that have been identified
by Khushii as also to fund internal projects. These NGOs have been selected after a careful
scrutiny of their capabilities, social contributions, fund utilizations efficiency and
effectiveness, and governance mechanisms so as to ensure that donor contributions are put to
the best possible use. As a donor, you will have the choice of supporting one or more causes
or contributing towards the broad spectrum of programmes.
Khushii’s initiatives for the ‘Joy of giving’ week
Khushii is creating a combination of events, exhibitions, and memorabilia that will allow
every citizen of Delhi to become a part of this landmark movement in some form or the other.
Khushii’s overall programme for the Joy of Giving week has three components that are
detailed below:
Component 1: Arches.
· Khushii will work with the art community to decorate the city of Delhi by means of
very attractive arches which will be spread across the length and breadth of the city.
· Each arch will give establishments and corporate a chance to advertise and show
solidarity towards the cause, the adverts will have high visibility and instantly give the
establishment a socially responsible image thus increasing brand value.
· An artist to create an artwork in sync with the establishment, to be printed on a flex
and put on the arch the company chooses to sponsor. The original artwork will
thereafter be presented to the corporate as a symbol of their support to Joy of Giving.
· The arches will also continue to serve as an active reminder of the Joy of Giving movement to Delhi’s citizens and encourage them to participate and contribute freely.
Component 2: Memorabilia
Khushii will create three ‘Joy of Giving’ related memorabilia with a dual purpose: the first to
display personal solidarity to the cause by wearing the memorabilia (wrist band, badge) and
secondly displaying Delhi’s solidarity by carrying it on the parade to collectively hoist them
(balloons)
The memorabilia will have two defining characteristics to associate them with the ‘Joy of
Giving’ week:
· A slogan reflecting the philanthropic spirit of Delhi: ‘ I AM CELEBRATING’
· Colours reflecting specific causes (as per global norms), such as green for the
environment and pink for children etc
The memorabilia will be made available to the public through a multitude of sales channels.
Just to name a few: Direct sales, Book / music / gift shops, Hotels and restaurants, School /
colleges / vocational training institutes, Shopping malls, Departmental stores, Movie theatres
etc.
Component 3: The Flight of Joy
As mentioned above, Khushii will culminate the first part of its programme and
simultaneously launch the Joy of Giving week with The ‘Flight of Joy’ - a balloon-flying
event to be held at the India Gate lawns on the 9th of October 2009. The event will see the
coming together of tens of thousands of Delhi-ites to release the balloons simultaneously,
creating an explosion of colours and joy in the skies above the city of Delhi (Please note that
we will ensure that the balloons will be 100% biodegradable and filled with completely
environment friendly gases (such as helium)
The event will be preceded by a parade along Vijay Chowk led by host of eminent
personalities from various walks of life including politics, films, music, art, and sports.
The balloons will be sold to individuals and institutions through the aforementioned points of
sale well in advance of The Flight of Joy, allowing them to not just participate in the launch
event, but also display them in their work spaces or homes (gates, balconies, and terraces)
and thus demonstrating their explicit support for and solidarity with this movement.
How can you contribute?
Individuals, corporates, educational institutions and industry can contribute to the event
through one or more of the following ways:
· Purchase of Khushii balloons or memorabilia (for a particular cause or otherwise)
· Sponsorship of Arches . This will give the sponsor strong visibility for a sustained period
of time, besides allowing them to participate in a landmark Delhi event
· Attach a strip on joy of giving on your already existing hoardings.
