Street children - the causalities of economic growth, war, poverty, loss of traditional values, domestic violence, physical and mental abuse.

Khushii cares; a day care center for children on the street provides them with a secure atmosphere at the same time taking care to ensure their holistic growth. Providing long-term vocational skills is the answer to eradication of instability, exploitation, inadequate shelter and poverty for these children. Vocational guidance helps job seekers on deciding on a course of study or finding the job that they are best suited for. The scooter mechanics and plumbing courses both recognized by Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS), Ministry of HRD have reaped successful placements.

Khushii Cares targets for February 2008…

  • Five more centers will be started in high need areas of Delhi; one of these will be dedicated to the girl child. They are often the most neglected and abused children on the street. In an effort to protect themselves against various kinds of abuses they live camouflaged as boys. The services provided will include: nutrition/food, psychological counselling, medical/first aid, non-formal education, vocational training and placement and awareness generation activities

  • In an effort to motivate and encourage them to become a part of the mainstream society Khushii has given these children training in vocational trades such as plumbing and motor mechanics. The effort is on to collaborate with socially aware people / organisation through Project Drishti to get them employment leading to economic independence. This will have a larger psychological impact on other children living on streets serving to strengthen their belief in the society’s willingness to extend a helping hand.

  • Identify new vocational trades to increase the number of beneficiaries

  • The empowerment Institute for underpiviledged women near Nizamuddin Railway Station will impart skills in cutting and tailoring. These women will be further placed in suitable jobs through Project Drishti
