I love to play, and love learning while playing. This 13-year old student, Sonam studies in class VIII in Faridabad. She comes from lower middle-class family of five members; her father happens to be a driver and her mother is a home maker.
Concentration in studies was a major problem with her and her academics suffered because of this. Due to lack of resources and minimal family income her parents could not provide her extra academic support she needed.
Worried over the steady decline in her performance at school, her parents approached KHUSHIIi’s Educator provided in the school under the Shikshaantra Plus programme. Her underlying interest in co-curricular activities was identified in the process. It became the starting point of her journey, as her improvement plan was designed around experiential learning.
As observed by the Counsellor, her focus was more whenever she was taught by practical methods of learning. Practical learning through working models helped her grasping the concepts faster.
From August 2018 till October 2018, she made remarkable improvement in her grades and in the assessment made in December 2018 her grade enhanced from C+ to B. Post exposure of hands-on experience with the support and mentorship of the team she was able to score well and grasp the school curriculum with great ease.
Sonam’s family is now pleased with her performance and is thankful to KHUSHII who nurtured the child in a better way enabling her to learn the way she wants. A little effort of creativity in learning improved her engagement with studies and has saved her present as well as her future. Her parents are happier than ever before, seeing her improved performance at school.
This is a striking example of how timely intervention and identification of the problems which a child had, could bring about a U-turn and give rewarding results making her teachers and parents proud of her.
