RUDRA DALMIA, PRESIDENT NOTE
Dear Patrons,
Today, KHUSHII’s impact is across 10 states in India, supporting 45,000 children
under our education programme and 5,00,000 people in the community.
Our mission and intent has not changed since our inception in 2003. Our aim: to
transform society and improve the lives of those who are most in need, and our
focus: to use the power of Education to change the lives of as many people as
possible, breaking the vicious cycle of poverty.
KHUSHII’s Education Programme: Shikshaantra Plus focusses on the strong base of
the existing Government Schools in our country. The need however, is a series of
improvements which are required within these schools to ensure that the students
are not left behind and choose to remain in formal schooling systems.
Our approach is to first and foremost, prioritise our Students. We provide an
improved student-friendly learning experience, where all activities are child focussed,
with teacher trainings conducted to ensure that faculty are using methods and tools
to engage with the children for better and holistic learning.
Our KHUSHII team of counsellors and teachers work closely with the Children and
their families – encouraging interactions and communication in the home, identifying
areas of concern where counselling may be beneficial and all in all, ensuring mental
health wellness.
Our learnings from Swatantra Shikhshaantra, KHUSHII’s flagship school which was
set up in 2007, has given KHUSHII a deeper and better understanding of the level
and type of holistic intervention which is required for wide-spread and large scale
implementation within Government Schools. Our experiences over the years has
made it very clear that to ensure optimal impact in the lives of our KHUSHII children,
it is imperative to support the families of the children and Community which is
adjoining to the school.
We inculcate a sense of belonging, a sense of community and a sense of pride in
our KHUSHII students and believe that this is what helps us build brighter futures for
all of our 45,000 children.
On behalf of each and every one of these children, I thank you for your constant
support. Many of you have stood by our side and walked the path with us over the
years, we stand where we are today due to your contribution!
MR. SIDDHARTH MOHAN, GENERAL SECRETARY NOTE
Dear Patrons,
As I took the reins as Khushii’s General Secretary in October, 2019 I must say that I
gained a perfect family of 45,000 Children, 500,000 fellow Indians, determined to
break the chain of poverty, and a dedicated team working diligently to truly make a
change.
My predecessors and the founder members have set a solid foundation for KHUSHII
based on equal opportunities, partnerships and joining forces to do the most that we
can together. The impact we have had in the lives of 1.5 million over our 16 years
has truly been a mammoth achievement – and one of our driving forces to keep
doing more. Our Goal is to create a network of significant change – impacting 2.5
million lives by 2022. Due to the contribution from our Corporate Partners and
Donors, we are surely and steadily approaching our goal.
Our Corporate partners play a pivotal role to ensure sustainability of KHUSHII’s
Programme initiatives. Their contribution also strives towards building a constant
financial reserve to safeguard our beneficiaries from any unforeseeable
circumstances. Corporate Partnerships act as the backbone to KHUSHII’s
programmatic needs – giving KHUSHII what is scarce – time and money. In addition
to the financial support that Corporates bring, their contribution is also on a
participatory level, with many offering skilled volunteers, who bring knowledge,
proficiencies and new ideas to our organisation.
Longstanding relationships with both our Corporate partners and individual donors
are something that KHUSHII prides itself on – we believe this is a result of
complete transparency through regular updates and reports, Programme visits and
interactions with the beneficiaries, and our underlying intent to give our patrons and
supporters a token of appreciation on behalf of our KHUSHII children. This is where
our Art & Events Team comes into play who have been successful over the years
due interactive and unique fundraising concepts and the continuous support of
benevolent and eminent personalities across the globe.
Our aim through our fundraisers is to give thanks to our patrons and supporters for
their generosity. Each concept is an endevour to create an interactive and unique
experience for the patrons and giving them a tangible memory of their contribution –
a reminder of the smiles they have painted on the faces of many underprivileged.
Funds generated through these events are often need-based or specific to a certain
cause or project, and are also the main source for KHUSHII’s Corpus for future plans
and sustenance of the organisation.
I thank you for coming forward to support our organisation and sign off with a quote
which shall surely resonate with each and every one of us.
“No one has ever become poor by giving”
– Anne Frank
MR. ANIRUDH KHAITAN, TREASURER
Dear Patrons,
I am humbled to be a part of KHUSHII in the development of a collective and stronger future through participation at the grassroots level. During my association, I have seen KHUSHII evolve as a strong team, with a proven track record of generating a high return on social investment for all its donors.
The story of last few years spells success, with several milestones being achieved. The most heartening one is that, with the efforts of our counsellors and field mobilizers, 393 dropout students have returned to mainstream education. Our outreach has increased from 28,262 students in 6 states to 45,000 students in 10 states, with our volunteers creating awareness about child rights in 10,000 children at 8 government and private schools. KHUSHII’s Faridabad students won the top three prizes in Quiz Competition, Tinkering and Model Making at the STEM AWARD 2020, beating 200 pan-India schools. A team of 10 students and 3 KHUSHII teachers from Mukundpur school (Delhi) won the first prize in Zonal Science Fair. Under the guidance of KHUSHII sports teacher, 3 students from the same school topped state-level Kabaddi competition.
Moreover, 42 deserving students received sponsorships for BTech, DPharm, CA, CS, and BBA courses, while 10 sponsored students are working in well-known organisations such as Cadence, Deloitte (Jyotirgamya), RBS, MAX Institute of Health Education & Research, and Narender Mohan Hospital. KHUSHII children marked their presence in a panel discussion on Doordarshan as well as “Hawa Tight Campaign” on 92.7 Big FM.
In future, KHUSHII’s empanelment with Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR) and collaboration with the Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) to create a research-based module for WASH is sure to help us achieve more positive outcomes at the national level.
KHUSHII was able to make significant leaps on-ground last year thanks to the generosity of its donors. Twenty-five corporate partners like KPMG Global Services, Charities Aid Foundation India, Federal Mogul Goetze India, Newgen Software Technologies, Indraprastha Gas, Oracle, Sandhar, Flextronics Technologies in India and Adobe Foundation overseas answered the call to support KHUSHII’s initiatives. The sum of Rs 7.10 Cr raised last year helped us to strengthen and launch programmes for impacting thousands of lives across India.
Despite the successes, KHUSHII has a long way ahead towards accomplishing its vision of an equitable future for children and communities. In view of the challenges posed by COVID-19, our relief plans/efforts revolve around two verticals. The first one is KHUSHII Relief Fund to support those who have been affected by the pandemic on a long-term basis with a sustainable support plan, and putting systems in place to meet the needs of the “second round of giving”. The second one pertains to ensuring continued support to those who are dependent on KHUSHII, which include our 45,000+ children and 5,00,000 individuals in the community we serve.
As we look ahead together toward a brighter future, I wish to thank all individuals and organisations who have made each of our endeavours a success with their valuable support.
